Last year, we surveyed hundreds of Scrum professionals—Scrum Masters, developers, and product owners—who shared frustrations about siloed work, broken processes, and stakeholder demands.

That’s why I created Scrum Team Reset: Get Your Scrum Team Back on Track, a series of three free, agile for teams training videos designed to help you eliminate common Scrum dysfunctions and create a team that collaborates well.

In this three-part video series, you’ll learn how to overcome siloed thinking, improve your Scrum processes to fit your team’s needs, and navigate external pressures that derail progress.

Each video tackles one of the biggest barriers to high-performing agile teams: people problems, broken processes, and organizational challenges. If you’re ready to turn frustration into productivity, these videos will show you how to:

We’ll release the videos over the next week, starting today with Video 1: From Tasks to Teamwork, where we look at turning disconnected individuals into a high-performing team.

Why do Scrum teams struggle to work together?

Scrum teams bring together individuals with different personalities, levels of experience, and expectations about what teamwork should look like. Some team members thrive in collaborative environments, while others are used to working independently. Some have years of experience in agile ways of working, while others are still figuring it out.

These differences can create friction, and our survey showed us plenty of teams were experiencing this type of disconnect including:

  • Siloed work: "Developers, testers, and business stakeholders rarely collaborate beyond the necessary handoffs. They stick to their own responsibilities, avoiding overlap instead of embracing teamwork."
  • Unequal participation: "Some voices dominate, others disappear. While certain team members take control of discussions, others hesitate to speak up, leading to an imbalance in participation and decision-making. Over time, this discourages quieter team members from contributing at all."
  • Individual success over team progress: "People judge their success based on their own tasks and responsibilities rather than the team’s goals. It creates a sense of busyness without real progress."

Great teams don’t just happen. They aren’t a lucky mix of the right personalities, and they don’t magically form just because a Scrum framework is in place.

A disconnected team is quite often struggling because it’s missing key elements needed to function as a true team.

From Tasks to Teamwork

In this first video, we tackle two key problems that will stop your Scrum team working effectively as a team.

Lack of shared vision: People work on their own tasks rather than aligning towards a common goal. They may complete their work, but without a clear sense of purpose, collaboration feels forced rather than natural.

No culture of collaboration: Individuals stick to their job descriptions instead of supporting one another. Developers code, testers find bugs, and product owners manage stakeholders—missing opportunities to work as one team.

You’ll learn:

  • 3 different ways to reveal the inspiring purpose that will finally unite your team
  • Practical techniques to improve collaboration, including the strategic use of conflict to spark new ideas between teammates.

These aren’t changes that require weeks of planning or executive buy-in. They’re things you can start trying in your very next sprint.
